Bird Diversity in Ayer Hitam Utara Forest Reserve, Johor and Implications on Peat Swamp Forest Management Strategies

چکیده
Ayer Hitam Utara Forest Reserve (AHUFR) is the largest and last existing peat swamp forest in Johor. Peat are known to be very important as it serve a home variety of flora fauna, especially bird species. Other than that, also prone fire become major threat during hot weather or drought (El Nino events). This problem will cause biodiversity loss threaten bird’s habitat behaviour since some birds extremely susceptible sudden environmental changes. Therefore, effective management need implemented on ecosystem order conserve well species that inhabit area. Hence, this study was conducted provide preliminary checklist bird, while identify threats faced by AHUFR came out with best protect wildlife it. The method used mist-netting, direct observation aid DSLR camera, video binocular, spotter scope, sound recording interview ranger for four days. About 15 recorded, five from method, three recording, two mist-netting method. From data, one vulnerable (VU) near threatened (NT) recorded which Black Hornbill (Anthracoceros malayanus) Fluffy-backed Tit-babbler (Macronus ptilosus) respectively. Both native forest. In terms threat, identified common occurring AHUFR. diversity can if there no action taken various parties spreading awareness among communities according issue. suggested few recommendations practices manage

Leaf size indices and structure of the peat swamp forest
Leaf size indices of the tree species in the peatland of Agusan del Sur in Mindanao in Philippines was examined to deduce the variation of forest structure and observed forest zonation. Using raunkiaer and webb’s leaf size classification, the leaf morphometrics of seven tree species consistently found on the established sampling plots were determined. The species includes Ternstroemia phi...

متن کاملBionomics studies of Mansonia mosquitoes inhabiting the peat swamp forest.
The present study was conducted in the years 2000-2002 to determine the bionomics of Mansonia mosquitoes, vectors of nocturnally subperiodic Brugia malayi, inhabiting the peat swamp forest, "Phru Toh Daeng", Narathiwat Province, Thailand. Fifty-four species of mosquitoes belonging to 12 genera were added, for the first time, to the list of animal fauna in the peat swamp forest. Mansonia mosquit...
متن کاملMicromonospora humi sp. nov., isolated from peat swamp forest soil.
A novel actinomycete, strain P0402(T), was isolated from peat swamp forest soil collected in Thailand. Its taxonomic position was determined by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. The chemotaxonomic characteristics of this strain matched those of the genus Micromonospora, i.e. the presence of meso-diaminopimelic acid and N-glycolyl muramic acid in the peptidoglycan, whole-cell sugar pattern ...
متن کاملeffects of reserve management on woody and ground flora diversity (case study: chamhesar pear forest reserve)
forest reserves are one of the most important approaches in ecosystem management in iran. in order to determine the effects of reserve management on plants diversity (woody plants and ground flora) in three zones (core zone, buffer zone, and transmission zone of chamhesar pear forest reserve), we mapped land form units. then 18 main sampling units (20×50=1000 m2) distributed randomly were chose...
